What material is UNS S32550?

UNS S32550 is a super duplex stainless steel with high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content. It combines austenitic and ferritic structures to offer strong corrosion resistance and high strength, making it suitable for harsh chemical and seawater environments.

S32550 balances strength and corrosion resistance better than some grades. It has excellent pitting and crevice corrosion resistance while maintaining toughness. Its chemical mix also reduces susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking in hot, aggressive fluids.

S32550 is classified as a super duplex stainless steel. It has higher alloying elements than standard duplex grades, giving superior strength and corrosion resistance.

It offers double the strength of 316 or 2205 duplex steel while resisting pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress cracking. It also lasts longer in seawater, chemical, and high-pressure applications.

S32205 is a standard duplex grade with slightly lower corrosion resistance and strength. S32550 has higher chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen, providing better performance in aggressive acids and seawater systems.
